Jerin Lei Music Video – FCP Studio 3 thoughts

Today is a fairly monumental day for me – wow no mincing my words here. I’m on my way towards completing my  first edit, grade and compression in FCP Studio 3. My old intel mac has been upgraded from Tiger to Snow Leopard and things are running very well indeed. The improvements in the software are without a doubt much welcomed. The whole package seems to have tighter integration and a much more fluid workflow. I was able to send clips with speed and motion fx to Color hassle free and grade them straight away – previously this task was a nightmare with FCP 6. The choice of codecs is evermore bewildering as are the options for exporting and compressing your media. The power of Color at your fingertips is one thing that I am going to take full advantage of on any productions that I undertake as part of my PhD research. Also in action for the first time is the Apple Magic Mouse – now I have to be honest at first I hated it. Firstly, it’s the most expensive mouse I have ever owned, secondly the bluetooth part of the config I hadn’t thought through properly… My Mac Pro being inside a metal rack unit didn’t seem to have the bluetooth range to cope with me being a couple of metres away. Solution – I moved the Mac Pro to the other side of the rack unit, and moved my output monitor so I now work closer to the machine. Seems to have done the trick and I think that with a little ‘getting used to’ the magic mouse will indeed save me time and effort. The touch gestures proved excellent for editing numeric values to 6dp in Color, so fingers crossed I can get used to it’s low profile. Once the music video gets a sign off I’ll post it here. It’s a quick shoot and edit (as these things usually are) for the title track of a debut album ‘In The Dark’ by Jerin Lei available on http://www.robinwoodproductions.com the video will replace (hopefully!) the one they already have.
